Manipur Community Art Project

In March 2026, I traveled to Imphal, Manipur, India for a workshop and community art project with Ya_All, an NGO that supports the LGBTQ community in the region. Over three days, we dyed phadi — a hand-spun cotton woven in Manipur — with indigo shibori, assembled the dyed flags, and built a traditional Yaoshang hut, which we burned on April 3 in the yard of Ya_All’s shelter — a ritual of renewal linking Manipur’s Yaoshang and Korea’s Dalmaji Jwibulnori (달맞이쥐불놀이).
