Suki Kwon is a Korean-born, American who lives and works in the city of Dayton, Ohio. Since she joined the faculty in 2004, she has been a professor of design at University of Dayton. She studied psychology in college but a yearlong stay in London, U.K. and a life-changing backpacking trip through Europe convinced her to change her path and pursue a career as an artist. Kwon received M.A. and M.F.A in Design from the University of Iowa and M.A. in Theological Studies from the University of Dayton.

Kwon was selected to participate in the Nagel project: a seminar and studio project on contemporary Chinese art and society. She received a FLAS (Foreign Language Area Studies) fellowship from the U.S. Department of Education and Stanley scholarship to support research in Tokyo, Japan and had a semester long stay in Nanjing, China as a visiting scholar. Kwon has been the recipient of numerous grants and awards including the Hanley Sustainability Institute Scholarship Grant, Ohio Arts Council Grants and OAC Individual Excellence award, Sustainability Energy Environment Seed Research Grant, two UDRI Summer Research Fellowship Grants, University of Dayton Diversity Grant, two international research and development grants from Nanjing University of Science and Technology, an Iowa Fine Arts Council grant and a winner of NICHE award.

Kwon’s works have been exhibited locally, nationally and internationally and she has been selected to be part of MICA (Maryland Institute College of Art) Summer Artist in Residency and Norton Island Residency programs.

Kwon speaks Korean, English, Japanese and reads Chinese and Ancient Greek.
