Marianist Banners

Marianist banners are made of cotton fabric dyed with natural indigo dye using the Shibori (Japanese resistant dye) technique and embellished with hand stitching to create Mandala patterns. The deep blue color has a strong association with the Virgin Mary in Western classical Christian art. We chose cotton fabric for its simple and common, humble nature; we felt the Marianist Charism of serving others aligns with the characteristics of cotton fabric. The mandala patterns on the surface of the banners celebrate Marianists’ acceptance of and inclusivity toward other faith traditions.
